Music is the universe-al language

Aliens would like Bach

I wonder what Dr Benham or Neeley would think of this.  After all the talk about how music is not a universal language.  And now we’re saying that not only is it the universal language, it’s the galactic-al one.  Or whatever the term is.

I am glad to see that someone has been thinking what aliens will think about our society.  When they come.

Two questions: 1. Why Bach and not, say, Rachmaninoff?  Or say Ali Farka Toure?  Why classical and not another style?  Would they not like the Beatles?  Kansas?  2. How come when Capt Kirk and the others from the various Star Treks visited a new planet, they very rarely showed any interest in the music or art of the culture?
