Friday’s lunch: Stew
Think back to your public school days. Maybe private school is the same, I don’t know. Hamburger one day. Salisbury steak the next. Pizza, if you’re lucky. And then there was Friday. And somehow Friday was always something like stew. Not to say the stew wasn’t stew….just you know you’d either have stew or you’d [...]

Mistake #1. (and #2)
I logged into Facebook today. I know. I shouldn’t have, and it was obvious that I shouldn’t have. But I did. Then I posted a comment. (I know!) Now I’m sitting here with my blood pressure up because of an inane argument on Facebook with people that I don’t even know. Time to quit again.

I do not think that means what you think it means…
It’s amazing how much of life can be connected with The Princess Bride. A federal judge has ruled that Cranston West High School must remove a mural which depicts the “school prayer” saying that it is a violation of the Constitution because it promotes religion. Ridiculous. We need to have a “come to Jesus” meeting [...]

Sad, creepy or just really pathetic
I can’t decide. Maybe some of you married folk can explain this to me. Todd Remis was not happy with the wedding pictures he received. He says that the photographers at his wedding in 2003 left before the end of the reception and therefore did not get any pictures of the last dance and the [...]

Newest formal religion: Kopimism
If you thought things like Eckankar were ridiculous, you haven’t seen anything. Just before Christmas, the Swedish government officially recognized the Church of Kopimism as a religion. Rather than explain this new “church,” I’ll just copy the text from their website. For the Church of Kopimism, information is holy and copying is a sacrament. Information [...]

YIP: 2012: Memorize Psalm 119
You may recall a few months ago I mentioned that my friend Luke Veldt had started a challenge to memorize Psalm 119 in 22 months. Since this project has already started and will take longer than just the year, it falls in its own special category. Still, it is something I want to work on [...]

Supreme ignorance
The Supreme court has decided to ignore a case that allows the city of New York to ban schools from renting their space to churches for use on weekends. That was an awkward way to say that, but I kind of liked my play on words for the title, so I had to go with [...]

The bratization of America
That’s right: bratization. We’re becoming a nation of brats. We have to have things our own way or we complain. We think nothing of saying things that are hurtful or just plain stupid and wrong, because after all, this is America, I have a right to my opinion. Well, sure you do, Sherlock. But that [...]

What’s wrong with America’s universities
I don’t know who it was that coined the phrase “so open minded that their brains fell out” but it seems to apply more and more these days to America’s (and the world’s for the matter) institutes of higher learning. This article is a rather minimal example, but the most recent of a university teacher [...]

First Presidential Candidates, now kids
Seems like it isn’t too hard these days to sexually harass someone. In fact, it’s so easy, even the kids are getting in on it. Last week a 7 year old boy was suspended and the police were called – the police(!) – because he sexually harassed another boy. Apparently the two boys (let’s just [...]
