Mistake #1. (and #2)

I logged into Facebook today. I know. I shouldn’t have, and it was obvious that I shouldn’t have. But I did. Then I posted a comment. (I know!) Now I’m sitting here with my blood pressure up because of an inane argument on Facebook with people that I don’t even know. Time to quit again.

Shocking News of the day

Facebook’s behavior was “deceptive.” I like the way this story is written. As if no one was aware that Facebook has had issues with their users’ privacy since virtually the beginning of the website. “Government regulators are sharing some alarming information about Facebook: They believe the online social network has often misled its more than [...]

Hate Facebook? Don’t care for Google+? There’s more!

The latest (as far as I know, anyway) to enter the social network fray is unthink.com. Unthink likes to bill itself as the anti-facebook. And from what I can gather on their website (without signing up, mind you) is that they intend to be a socially aware, socially active social network. Despite the stupid name [...]

How much Klout do you have?

What if every potential employer judged you based on your social media skills? Not just whether you are on Facebook or Twitter (or rather “and Twitter”) and maybe other social media sites, but how effectively you use those sites to influence people. Sounds like a great idea, doesn’t it? Meet Joe Fernandez, the creator the [...]

Day 31: Facebook fast

Day 24: Facebook Fast

I’m beginning to wonder if I need to go back to Facebook. I’ve gotten used to not being on it, to not knowing what is going on in that virtual world and just living in this other one. And I don’t mind it. I even rather like it. Back in the early days of the [...]

Day 17: Facebook Fast

Nope. Still don’t miss it. My first year in Romania I did not have a microwave. I didn’t have a clothes dryer or a dishwasher either (or a TV or a radio). But back to the point. I had to learn how to cook and survive without a microwave. So…this is what it was like [...]

Day 10: Facebook Fast

So far, I don’t miss it.

I’m not alone

If you read the comments to this post, you’ll see that I’m not alone in my decision to take a break from Facebook. It got me thinking about a study I heard about recently that suggested that young people are becoming less enthralled with social media. I can’t find any such study now, so I’m [...]
